No work is done in moving a test charge over an equi-potential surface.Explain,why?

since there is no force acting there is no potential energy encountered by the charge hence there is no work required to keep the charge moving over the surface. Hence no work is done to move a test charge over an equipotential surface.

we can make use the following equation given below

dW= qdv

since dv=0

then dw=0

As we know potential difference is the work done by external forces against electric field to bring change from on point to another point.



And on equipotential surface potential is same all across the surface.


So on moving a charge their is no potential difference.

:. Therefore, there is no work done ☺️
