Non-biodegradable materials( for example- plastics) cannot be broken down by microorganisms, however, they are acted upon by external factors such as heat and pressure.
The impact is slow as these are mainly inert and take millions of years to decompose as they are difficult to decompose and thereby harms the environment and other living beings.
