Non-profit A non-profit organization sells affordable cloth masks and hand sanitizer in a community, at a
price of $4 per mask and $6 per bottle of hand sanitizer. The organization is able to produce masks and bottles
of hand sanitizer at a cost of $2 per mask and $3 per bottle.
(a) Assume that the organization is run by volunteers, and their only operating costs were the $1000 that they
spent on producing masks and sanitizer. Set up a system of equations in order to solve for the number
of masks and bottles of hand sanitizer they produce and provide to the community. (Remember, this is a
non-profit, so their net profit should be zero.) Write a system of linear equations to make a matrix to know how much to produce and provide.

2x + 3y = 1000

Step-by-step explanation:

CP of mask = $2

CP of sanitizer = $3

SP of mask = $4

SP of sanitizer = $6

Profit per mask = $4 - $2 = $2

Profit per sanitizer bottle = $6 - $3 = $3

Operating costs = $1000

Let mask be x and sanitizer bottle be y.

Then the profit from the sale of mask and sanitizer should meet the operating costs in order that the non-profit organization stays breakeven.

So 2x + 3y = 1000 will be the linear equation to represent the number of masks and sanitizers to be sold to be breakeven.
