number of modes in linear= 3n-5
number of modes in non-linear= 3n-6
where n= no. of e's{electrons}
BrF5 has 4 F's in square& 2 {i.e., lone pair& F} in axial
each F has 6 e' so we find both & sum them{since its a complex}
Linear= 3(4*6)-5= 3(24)-5= 72-5= 67
Non-Linear= 3(2+6)-6= 24-6= 18
Number of modes of vibration BrF5= 67+18= 85
number of modes in non-linear= 3n-6
