Yes,
It is very true that normally veins open into a large vein which connects them to heart.
The human body has two large veins known as

1) Superior Vena Cava :- All the veins from the upper body that is above the abdonimal cavity drain their blood into this vena cava

2) Inferior Vena Cava :- It drains the blood from the lower part of the body.

These two vena cavas take the deoxygenated blood to the heart.

But,
There is an exception.

PULMONARY VEIN

Yes , the pulmonary vein is an exception.
it is an exception because it is the only vein in the entire human body which carries oxygenated blood.

when the blood goes for re oxygenation to the lungs it is taken by Pulmonary artery.
hence Pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood from heart to lungs.

when the blood is oxygenated then it is brought back to the heart by the pulmonary veins.
these pulmonary veins bring back the oxygenated blood to the left auricle.

pulmonary veins are the exceptions as they are the only vein in the entire human body which carries oxygenated blood from lungs to the heart.
