Northern plains are most extensive and fertile plains due to himalayan rivers like Ganga, Indus and Brahmaputra.

These rivers carry lot of silt,sand and clay and thus form alluvial soil in the northern plains which is the most fertile soil.

Transport is easier in plains, so lot of economic activities, development can be seen this region.

These plains are among world's most populated areas
