There are cyclonic disturbances (circular movements) in the Northern plains brought in from North Western and Western directions. These start in West Asia and the Mediterranean Sea and proceed towards India causing snow fall in the mountains and rains in the plains.

The North-western part of India receives rainfall and snowfall from the temperate cyclones that come from the Mediterranean region of Europe-East wards towards India .
