It all started when a king named "Carl" forced her wife Ymir to ask the demon for some powers that will turn a human into a demon like thing, he forced her so much, then after she asked the demon for powers, then she got turned into founding titan, That's how it all starts, then Idk how but she got killed, but the king wanted the titan power so he can rule the world, so he asked demon again, but this time demon didn't listen and just said the way to double the number of titan, obviously not by reproduction,but by eating, by eating a shifter titan, you can also have powers of a titan, so when queen Ymir died the king forced her 3 daughters to eat their mother's body, his daughters names was Maria, Rose and Sheena, and the king himself also eat the queen's body, the things happen, and it became a ritual kinda thing in the royal family, to eat their previous generation's body. that's it :D
