The objective of Digital Communication Systems is to give students a coherent knowledge of digital techniques involved in various stages and components in general digital communication systems. This unit covers the acquisition of real-world (analog) signals or information, the conversion and/or coding of these signals into digital forms, the modulation of the digital signal and the transmission of the modulated signal along physical (band limited) channels such as wires and microwaves, and finally the demodulation, decoding, and reconstruction of the signals back into their original forms at the receiving end. Some theoretical foundations such as sampling theory and information theory are also covered. In addition, the unit also introduces some computational aspects and simulation methods for the design of a modern digital communication system
