EXPANSION WORK NOTES :

**A force acts on the interfacing wall between system and surroundings. The work is due to change of system volume by expansion or contraction of the system. If the system expands, in the present article it is said to do positive work on the surroundings.

**Free expansion process is basically an expansion process against vacuum. In this process there is no heat transfer & work transfer from & to the system, so as a result temperature before & after expansion is constant, it Means free expansion process are isothermal process.

**In free expansion there is no work done as there is no external external pressure. That's certainly true, in fact free expansion is an irreversible process in which a gas expands into an insulated evacuated chamber, you can think of it like ann container with a piston and the gas is left to expand in vacuum.

**The Joule expansion (also called free expansion) is an irreversible process in thermodynamics in which a volume of gas is kept in one side of a thermally isolated container (via a small partition), with the other side of the container being evacuated.

**When the volume of the system increases, the sign of the work term must be negative - the system is losing energy and doing work on the surroundings. The result is that any compression will have a positive work term, and any expansion will have a negative work term.

**Expansion is defined as the act of getting bigger or something added onto something else. An example of an expansion is an extra three rooms built onto a house. YourDictionary definition and usage example.

**Expansion may be caused by factors external to the economy, such as weather conditions or technical change, or by factors internal to the economy, such as fiscal policies, monetary policies, the availability of credit, interest rates, regulatory policies or other impacts on producer incentives.

**Expansion is what happens when something becomes bigger or more extensive. If you enjoy good pastry, you will be excited by the expansion of the bakery, but be careful or you will also see the expansion of your waistline. The noun expansion is from the Latin word expansionem, which means a spreading out.

**In a system enclosed so as to prevent matter transfer, at constant pressure, the enthalpy change equals the energy transferred from the environment through heat transfer or work other than expansion work. The same situation exists in classical mechanics: only a change or difference in energy carries physical meaning.
