a. . Novels  in India were written in vernacular and created a sense of belonging and identity. 
 b. Novels brought about people of diverse cultures together. It took a classical language blending it with local language and thus connected people. In India, novels were written in Hindi,  Malayalam, and Bengali etc.
c. Novels aimed at social progress and challenged age old customs and traditions. 
d.  . The  novel through its characters aimed  to create  society based on democratic values and principles of liberty, equality, justice and fairness.
e.  Novels were used by nationalists to vent their grievances , to criticise the colonial rule.
f, Novels thus, instilled a sense of pride among the people.
g. Novels also glorified India's past, cultures , which instilled and boosted confidence among the people. . For example , ​Bhudeb Mukhopadhyay’s Anguriya Binimoy​, was the first historic novel, which helped in creating a sense of pride among the Indians, as it glorified India's past. Many early Bengali novels were rooted in past, the novels focussed on historical events, processes, characters.
