This is a challenging issue to take a solid stance on, since there are so many factors to consider. Given the speed at which technology advances, as well as the skill of those that would compromise the security of any given IT security, it is hard to keep up with or stay ahead of either. I feel that, in most cases, due diligence is given to the security of network management systems. However, it seems to continue to a cycle of catching up to those with greater motivations to compromise that security.
