A neutron is absorbed by the nucleus of a uranium-235 atom, which in turn splits into fast-moving lighter elements (fissionproducts) and free neutrons. Though bothreactors and nuclear weapons rely on nuclearchain-reactions, the rate of reactions in areactor occurs much more slowly than in a bomb.

Explanation:

neutron is bombarded on atom of Uranium 235 it absorb the neutron and convert into its isotopes of Uranium 236.uranium 236 being extremely unstable converts into atoms of barium and krypton through a process of fission releasing three neutrons and 200 MeV energy. the three neutrons generated in this process cause fission of three other uranium 235 atom releasing more energy the neutrons released in this reaction release more energy through fission of more Uranium nuclei.this process of fission of Uranium 235 atom continue and is called as the chain reaction in nuclear power plant a controlled Chain Reaction result in release of thermal energy which is used for electrical power electrical energy generation
