Answer:-

Good question @bronzed

Explanation:-

#refer the attachment for Lewis dot structure of P2O5.

As the structure indicates it has two central atoms both are phosphorus with same hybridization.

As it is Sharing 2 electrons with 1 oxygen atoms and one more 2 electrons with 1 oxygen atom.

It is sharing one more electron with phosphorus.

No. of electrons :-

Oxygen¹ = 2( oxygen)+ 2(phosphorus)= 4(total Sharing electrons with one oxygen).

Oxygen ²= 2( oxygen)+ 2(phosphorus)= 4(total Sharing electrons with one oxygen).

Phosphorus =1+ 1= 2(total sharing electrons with one phosphorus)

Total number of electrons = 4 + 4 + 2 = 10 electrons.

So, there are 10 electrons in the central atom of P2O5.

Note the condition has more than 8 electrons then it is called as super octet molecule.

Thanks.
