Number of floating ribs in human body is 2 pairs.

Answer: Option (d)

Explanation:

Ribs are usually three types of true ribs, false ribs and floating ribs. Floating ribs are those which are not attached directly to the ‘sternum’. The ‘true ribs’ are attached to the ‘sternum’ and the false ribs are attached to the last of the true ribs. There are altogether 12 pair of ribs.

The first 7 are called true ribs, the last three are the false ribs and the last two are the floating ribs. In some individuals three can be a third pair of floating ribs known as the gorilla rib which is usually present in gorillas.
