atomic number is the number of protons

queen29: explain why
piyush12341: it is it's property
queen29: please say how does that happens
piyush12341: you have to read atomic theory for this
queen29: okay thx for your complements
piyush12341: no problem

It is just a convention
You can say that the atomic number is equal to the number of electrons but by convention we say that it is the number of protons.

Hope this helps
