"Number of vertebrae in human skeleton is (c) 33.

Vertebrae are the bones present in vertebral column

A cervical vertebra includes seven vertebrae. Atlas is the first cervical vertebra and the second one is called axis. The remaining five vertebrae have the following features: bifid spinous processes, transverse foramina and triangular vertebral foramen.

The next twelve vertebrae are called as thoracic vertebrae. Demi-facets, costal facet and spinous process are its recognising features.

Lumbar vertebrae are the next five vertebrae. It is of considerable size. It is kidney shaped and has a triangular shaped foramen.

The five combined vertebrae is the Sacrum. And it follows the lumbar vertebrae.

The coccyx is the smallest in the vertebral column and is combined by four fused vertebrae.
