O is the centre of the circle and PT is the tangent at T. If PT = 7 cm & PQ = 1 cm find the radius.

Given :

  • O is the centre of the circle and PT is the tangent at T. If PT = 7 cm & PQ = 1 cm

To find :

  • It's radius

Solution :

since PT is the tangent and PQB is the secent of the circle

PQ x PB = PT²

1 x PB = 7²

PB = 49 cm

PQ + QB = 49

1 + QB = 49

QB = 49 - 1

QB = 48

radius = ½ x diameter

= ½ x QB

= ½ x 48

= 24 cm

Hence the radius is 24 cm
