Observe the following chemical reactions

Fe + CuSO4

→ FeSO4

+ Cu

Zn + FeSO4

→ ZnSO4

+ Fe

The decreasing order of reactivity of metals in the above reactions is

A. Zn > Fe > Cu B. Fe > Cu > Zn

C. Zn > Cu > Fe D. Cu > Fe > Zn

Zn is most reactive and Cu is least reactive

Metals present on top of the other metal in activity series can displace the metal at the bottom from its salt solution. So zinc is present at top of iron and can displace iron from its sulfate solution.

the answer is option c) C. Zn > Cu > Fe

Answer:

The decreasing order of reactivity of the metals in the given reactions is A. Zn > Fe > Cu

Explanation:

The given reactions are as follows:

  1. Fe+CuSO_4FeSO_4 + Cu
  2. Zn+FeSO_4ZnSO_4 + Fe

Generally, the more reactive metals can displace the other metals from the solutions.

In the first reaction, Fe displaces Cu from its solution CuSO4.

Therefore, Fe is more reactive than Cu, i.e. the order of reactivity is Fe > Cu

In the second reaction, Zn displaces Fe from its solution FeSO4.

Therefore, Zn is more reactive than Fe, i.e. the order of reactivity is Zn > Fe

Hence, the decreasing order of reactivity is Zn > Fe > Cu.
