Sound is produced by vibrating objects . The Matter or substance through which sound is transmitted is called a medium. It can be solid, liquid or gas . Sound moves through a medium from the point of generation to the listener. ....
Sound can propagate through a medium such as air, water and solids as longitudinal waves and also as a transverse wave in solids. The sound waves are generated by a sound source, such as the vibrating diaphragm of a stereo speaker.
For remembering :-
(1) Compression is the region of high pressure.
(2) Rarefaction is the region of low pressure.
