Observing the action of Zn. Fe. Cu and Al metals on the following salt solutions

ZnSO4(aq)
FesO4(aq)
CuSo4(aq)
Al2 (SO 4)2(aq)

Answer:

  1. Fe + CuSO4 --> FeSO4 + Cu

with FeSO4 And ZnSO4 and Al2(SO4)2 there will be no reaction of Fe

2. Zn + FeSO4 --> ZnSO4 + Fe

Zn + CuSO4 --> ZnSO4 + Cu

with ZnSO4 and Al2(SO4)2 there will be no reaction of Zn

3. no reaction of Cu with any of the solutions

4. Al + FeSO4 --> AlSO4 + Fe

Al + CuSO4 --> ASO4 + Cu

Al + ZnSO4 --> AlSO4 + Zn

no reaction with Al2(SO4)2

order Al. > Zn. > Fe. > Cu

Decreasing order of reactivity based on the above result Al> Zn> Fe > Cu

  • In order to determine the reactivity of the metals we follow the reactivity series in which the metals are arranged in descending order from top to bottom on the basis of their reactivity and reducing power.
  • Of all the given metals Aluminium lies on top position hence, it will be the most reactive of four and can displace less reactive metal.
  • Similarly, Zinc and Iron are reactive and finally copper is least reactive of all and will be displaced by everyone.
