The sum of voltage of different resistors gives the total voltage

Let the voltages be V1,V2,V3

Total voltage(V)= V1+ V2+V3

According to ohm's law v=IR

So,

IR=IR1+IR2+IR3

Taking I common from both sides

R=R1+R2+R3
