'A Hero' is a very amusing and entertaining story written by R.K. Narayan. Here Swami, who is the protagonist, is a very coward and meek boy. This is because first of all when he is asked to sleep alone in his father’s office room, he tries all tricks and tantrums to avert the situation. He hates sleeping alone and is scared to death when asked to do so.  

Also by sheer luck and coincidence, when Swami catches a notorious thief, and is asked to join the police, he just says yes to avoid them but decides to become a rail guard, or a bus conductor. This shows how meek and coward he is.
