$\frac{1}{5} x = \frac{1}{3} y \\ \frac{16 - y}{5} = \frac{y}{3} \\ 48 - 3y = 5 y\\ 48 = 8y \\ 6 = y\\ x = 16 - y \\ x = 16 - 6 \\ x = 10$

hence the greater number is 10 and smaller number is 6.
