since x+1 is a factor of 2x^2+kx then x=-1 should be zero of the above equation

ie, if we substitute x=-1 then,

2x^2+kx becomes 2*(-1)^2+k*(-1)

=2-k

this should be equal to zero

therefore, 2-k=0

=>-k=-2

=> k=2
