Disinvestment is the offloading of government shares to private companies. This is different prom privatization for in privatization, majority or all of the government shares is transferred to a private company.

In disinvestment, government still remains the major shareholder, hence the company is still considered to be Public.

Disinvestment is also referred to as capital expenditure reductions as it helps in reallocating resources to areas that have more productive yield.
