The IUPAC name of OHC-CH₂-CH=CH-CHO is Pent-2-ene-1,5-dial.

The reason behind this name is as follows:

  • The given compound has two functional groups of aldehyde.
  • Also, it has one double bond.
  • So, the carbons that need to be numbered can be from either the left or right side taking -CHO carbon as the first one.
  • But while giving numbers from rightward to leftward direction, we find a double bond to be closer to -CHO.
  • Thus according to IUPAC nomenclature rules, the numbering of carbon should be done from right to left.
  • After numbering we get 5 carbons, so "Pent" is given.
  • After that, the double bond lies in the position of the second carbon, so "2-ene" is given.
  • At last, comes the position of two -CHO, so, 1,5 is added next.
  • And as the functional group of -CHO is named as -al, it is added at last.
  • On whole, the IUPAC name of OHC-CH₂-CH=CH-CHO is Pent-2-ene-1,5-dial.
