Oil doesn't mix with water however. Oil and water become homogeneous if a sufficient quantity of detergent is added explain why???

Oil acts as an emulsifying agent and hence forms micelles around oil molecules to make them miscible

Detergent has hydrophobic and hydrophilic ends.
