Oil spills are a big worry for environmentalists. This happens when ships carrying oil run into bad weather, the sea is rough or when vessels collide with other vessels. The result of all this is spillage of large volumes of oil, which float over a big area on the surface of the seas and oceans. Aquatic life is affected by this unfortunate situation, as the suns rays are blocked from entering by the floating layer of oil and the oxygen in the atmosphere too is prevented from mixing with the water. Marine creatures that come to the water surface to breathe are harmed by the viscous fluid. The thick oil also gets into the body and affects body parts like the gills of fishes.
