Given : The size of the room is 8 feet × 12 feet.

three types of tiles :- 2 feet × 2 feet, 3 feet × 3 feet and 4 feet × 4 feet.

To Find  : Which size of the tile should he buy for his room so that he can lay without cutting

Solution:

8 x 12

8 = 2 x 2 x 2

12 = 2 x 2 x 3

4 is the HCF

Hence 4 x 4  tiles can be bought

ang 2 x 2 are factor of 4 x 4

Hence 2 x 2 tiles can also be bought

3 is not a factor of 8

Hence 3 x 3 tiles can not be used without cutting

4 x 4 tiles required would be  6  will be laid in 2 x3 layout

2 x 2 tiles required would be  24  will be laid in 4 x 6 layout

4 feet × 4 feet. and  2 feet × 2 feet, ca be used
