The sepoys refused to use the cartridges because they thought that were greased with Cow and Pig fat. They had to open the seal of the cartridges by biting it. During those time people believed that it was wrong to eat beef and pork. This incident led to the Revolt of 1857.

But nowadays nobody believes in such ideas
