Given : On a cartesian plane, the diagonal of a square lies on the x-axis

To Find : equation of one of its sides

Solution:

Angle between side of square and diagonal of Square = 45°

Angle of sides with x axis can be 45°  , 135°  ,  225°  , 315°

Slope of the line = tan (angle with x axis)

tan 45°  = 1

tan 135° = -1

tan  225° = 1

tan 315° = - 1

Equation of line

y = mx  + c

m = slope

=> y = ±x + c

y =  x + c

or  y = -x + c   => x + y = c

are possible Equation of side of square
