Life is full of out of the blue experiences. One such unexpected incident happened to me in the rainy season last year. The rain god was very generous; the rainfall was more copious than the average rainfall. On one rainy afternoon I was enjoying the downpour standing on the balcony. My home is situated on the mild slope of a foothill. Generally the roads become veritable rivulets during rainy season. People prefer to confine themselves indoors and go out only after the rain has subsided.
As I stood enjoying the falling rain and the flow of the temporary stream on the road outside the gate, I was flabbergasted to see one of the most unusual sights of my life. Since I was standing on the balcony, I could clearly see it. A wicker basket was being carried afloat in the strong current of water. The most astonishing thing related to the basket was there was a small infant in it.
Without thinking much, instinctively I rushed downstairs and ran after the fast moving basket. I really had to make a struggle before I could grab the basket. Thank God I did it in time as the stream on the road fell into the river just a few meters away from the spot where I grabbed the basket.
I had hardly picked up the baby from the basket and begun moving towards home wondering as to what I would to the baby, when I heard the screams of a woman running madly towards me. She straightway rushed to me and stopped in front of me. “Thank you so much”, said she, “For saving my baby. I am woman from the village. I was working in the field when the flash-flood caused by the sudden rain carried my baby.”
I was relieved to hand the baby to its mother, and it immediately stopped crying. I felt so good having done a great courageous and timely act that saved the life of an infant.where I was about to leave for office, when suddenly I opened the door only to realise that it's raining. If it was a Sunday I would have jumped with joy and would have been drinking tea while sitting in veranda watching nature at its best. But it's Wednesday so I took an umbrella and within two minutes I was on main road.To my surprise roads were flooded with water.I dropped the idea
If going to offoce as I turned back what I saw was something I could have never thought of.I saw a blue coloured basket floating on the water with an infant in it.Without wasting any minute I took the basket and now I was waiting for any conveynce that could take me to hospital. My friend and neighbour Richa was going to her office by car and she stopped on seeing me with the baby.I asked for her help and she readily agreed to it.Within ten minutes we landed at a nearby but a good hospital. The doctors took the child to the emergency ward and we're checking up the baby.We told the doctors that we found the baby floating on the road in a basket. The doctor informed us that it was a one day old baby girl.
I thought we must inform the police about it.As I was thinking how could a baby come on the road like that I soon realise that we live in a patriarchal society.Someone must have thrown the new born girl in the basket in the corner of the road but due to heavy rain the basket came on the road floating.I was feeling disgusted that how humanity has fallen to such a low.
