On adding 1 to the numerator of a fraction it becomes 1/2. Also on adding 1 to the denominator of the original fraction, it becomes 1/3. Find the original fraction​

x/y+1=1/3--(2)

x=1/3(y+1)

=(y+1)/3--(3)

substitute eq.3 in 1,

[(y+1)/3+1]/y=1/2

:.[(y+1+3)/3]/y=1/2

(y+4)/3=y/2

:.2(y+4)=3y

2y+6=3y

6=3y-2y

6=y--(4)

subt. eq.4 in 3,

x=(6+1)/3

x=7/3

:.x=2.33..
