Average speed=2*V1*V2/(V1+V2)
(This formula is only applicable when distance is in 2 equal halves)

Let V2 be ‘x’
=>40=2*30*x/(30+x)
=>1200+40x=60x
=>60x-40x=1200
=>20x=1200
=>x=1200/20
=>x=60km/h

The bus should travel with a speed of 60km/h for the next 40km to have an average speed of 40km/h
