On an outline map of India shade the areas of- Permanent settlements, Mahalwari settlements, Ryotwari settlements, Faqir movement
Explanation:
- This settlement was set-up in the year 1793 by the East India Company as a land revenue system. The taluqdars & rajas were recognized under the terms of this arrangement as zamindars. They were to collect revenue from the farmers & pay the company the revenue. The Permanent Settlement was introduced in Biha, Bengal, Madras & Varanasi.
- Mahalwari system was another form of land revenue system which his system was introduced in Agra, North-West Frontier, Gangetic Valley,Central Province, Punjab, and so on. This system consisted of lambardars or landlords villages, or even classes of villages, claiming to represent the whole village. The landowners were collectively liable, together with the village communities, for the payment of revenue. . All the lands in the villages, including the forest, pastures etc. was included under this scheme.
- Another type of land income system was the Ryotwari Scheme. Madras, Bombay, portions of Assam and Coorgh provinces in British India are important areas of introduction. The rights of ownership were transferred to the farmers in Ryotwari scheme. The British govt raised taxes from the farming community directly. Between the peasants and the government, there was no intermediary like Zamindar. As long as the peasant paid the revenue in time, the peasant was not evicted from the land.
- After the British invasion by the Fakirs or Muslim mendicants, Fakir's revolt was launched. Majnu Shah was in command of them. He defied the British government and introduced taxes on Bengali farmers and zamindars. They plundered English companies and purchased property, guns and ammunition. Pathans, Rajputs, & "disbanded Indian soldiers" assisted Majnu Shah.
