King Louis sixteen, when he ascended the throne of france he found an empty treasury because of many reasons, the years of war didn’t help in the cause, it ended or drained out the treasury big time, court.

The palace of Versailles was huge and extravagant, a lot of money was spent on its maintenance. The taxes were only for the people of the third estate the first two estates didn’t pay any taxes though they were the ones who were rich. Also corruption did play a part in emptying the treasury aswell.
