Mumbai: Demanding high fares, autorickshaw drivers across Maharashtra are set to go on an indefinite strike from Monday midnight. The strike is likely to cripple the state transport system - especially in Mumbai where auto-rickshaws form the lifeline of the city. Reports suggest that 2.2 lakh auto drivers in Mumbai and approximately 20 lakh auto drivers will stay off the roads.

For the strike to be successful, more than 350 different auto drivers associations across the state have come together. This has come after the auto drivers failed to get a satisfactory response from the state government last month over its demand for higher fares and a ban on private cab aggregators Ola and Uber.
