Answer:

no.of children is x

no.of chocolate is y

she distributed 5 chocolate to each

and 20 to adult

5x + 20 = y

5x + 20 = 145

5x = 145 -20

5x=125

x=125/5

x=25

no. of children is 25

Given:

On her birthday sonia distributed chocolates in an orphanage. She gave 5 chocolates to each child and 20 to adults.

To Find:

Taking number of children as x and total chocolates as y,

i) Form a linear equation.

ii) If she distributed 145 chocolates how many children are there in orphanage.

iii) Explain the valuue depicted here by sonia.

Solution:

i)We have,

  No.of children = x

  No.of chocolate = y

  Sonia distributed 5 chocolate to each and 20 to adult. So

  5x + 20 = y

ii)Sonia distributed 145 chocolates. So,

  5x + 20 = 145

  5x = 145 - 20

  5x = 125

   x = 125/5 = 25

iii) We should be kind towards one and another.

Hence, (i) the linear equation is 5x + 20 = y, (ii) there are 25 children in the orphanage and (iii) Sonia depicts the value of being helpful towards the society.
