The poet paints a brutal picture of the feeling of a tree. The poet of "On Killing a Tree" explains the difficulty and brutality of killing a tree.
He states that killing a tree takes more time and won't be possible by mere a knife stab. The tree has taken a lot of time to grow and become strongly rooted.
By simply hacking and chopping at it will not prevent the bark from recovering or the from spreading its seeds.
To kill the tree, one must uproot it by applying a huge amount of force. That will pull it up uprooting it and to decompose.
