on moving left to right in a period the metallic charater of element decreases . why?

While going to right from left of a period an electron is added to it ,while moving from one group to another so the valence electrons in the outermost orbital increase and the electronegativity increases (i.e., tendency to gain electron) so the atom will prefer to become a anion rather than cation (i.e., non-metallic character increases ) . So the metallic character decreases while moving right in a periodic table.

Metals are those elements which readily looses it's valence electrons. On left to right the ionisation energy increases as size decrease that's why non metallic character increases
