On the basis of dipole study predict whether HF compounds is purely ionic or polar covalent the bond length of HF is 92 pm and dipole movement is 1.92D

1)HF compound is polar covalent in nature.

2)In aqueos medium it behaves as ionic compound and this is due to the fact that the electronegativity of flourine is greater than hydrogen ( F= 3.98 ,H =2.2

3)This electro negativity difference causes the shared pair of electrons to sustain near the flourine atom .

4)This induces polarity in H – F bond . whereas in aqueos medium even a small amount of hydration enthalpy is sufficient to break this polar covalent bond and it forms ions and due to this it seems to be ionic in nature .

5)but in reality it is a polar covalent bond
