On the basis of molecular orbital theory, explain the following :
(i) He 2 mol e cule does not ex ist.(ii) O2 + shows paramagnetic behaviour

He2 does not exist because,
Bond order = 1/2 no.of bonding electrons - no. of antibonding electrons.
He2 has zero bond order and hence it does not exist

O2 + shows paramagnetic behaviour due to the presence of an unpaired electron.
