On the basis of your reading of the story and the discussion between the girls in the following picture, have a whole class discussion on-The Need to Recognize and Empower the Girl Child Save us. We have a dream too. The hardest profession to take in life is being a girl child! A whole range of discriminatory practices including female foeticide, female infanticide, son idolisation, early marriage and dowry have buried the future of the girl child A little amount of care, a handful of warmth and a heart full of love for a girl child can make a big difference. Did you know that every year 12 million girls are born in the country but unfortunately only 1/3 of those survive? Some are killed in the womb, some at the time of birth, some die due to ill health and some due to poor nutritional status. Why do people discriminate against us for nutrition and even education?

From the very past, it is seen that girl child in a family is not desirable, and if they are born in any family then they are no good treatments given to the girl child as compared to the love and care shall have been given to a boy.

Explanation:

Some families in Rajasthan once used to kill girl child if they were born, and only boys were the one who was treated as the eligible one for living in society. Many people also determined the sex of the fetus in the womb and depending on that they were aborted. Also, many families feel a huge burden to have a girl child in their family, as because they shall have to pay a huge amount in dowry during there marriages.
