Given : On the occasion of Diwali, Radhika wants to draw a Rangoli made up of only squares and rectangles

To Find : (a)What is the area of the floor available to her for making Rangoli?

(b)What is the formula that she will use to find the area of the square portion of Rangoli?

(c)What is the total area of the floor occupied for making Rangoli? Which geometrical figure (square/rectangle) occupies more area?

(d)What is the area of the floor not covered by Rangoli?

(e)Radhika wants to cover the boundary of the Rangoli with string of flowers? What is the length of the string required by her?

Solution:

area of the floor available to her for making Rangoli = 39 x 31

= 1209 cm²

area of the one square portion of Rangoli = 9² = 9 x9  = 81  cm²

Area of 3 Square portions = 3x 81 = 243  cm²

total area of the floor occupied for making Rangoli?

= 3 x 81 + 2 x 13 x 9

= 243  + 234

= 477    cm²

area of the floor not covered by Rangoli  = 1209 - 477 =  732 cm²

length of the string required by her = 2(27 + 35)

= 124 cm
