Silicon stimulates DNA synthesis in osteoblast-like bone forming cells. Silicon inhibits osteoclast mediated bone reabsorption in vitro. The synthesis of collagen, the fibrous protein which is essential for the flexibility of the bone, is decreased by Silicon deficiency.
