  • Alluvial Soil

Alluvial soil is soil deposited by surface water.It is considered as one of the most fertile soil. Alluvial soil is deposited by flowing rivers. It has been found in the northern plains from Punjab to West Bengal and Assam and in the Krishna, Godavari, Cauvery and Mahanadi deltas of Peninsular India.

  • Red soil

Red soil is porous and has a excessive percentage of iron oxide.These soils are located withinside the massive tracts of Western Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Southern Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Chhota Nagpur plateau of Jharkhand.

  • Desert Soil

Desert soil is found in the area where climate is arid or semi-arid. This soil is sandy and less fertile. Rajasthan, Haryana and southern Punjab states of India have this type of soil.It is found in Kachchh and some parts of Saurashtra in Gujarat.

  • Laterite Soil

Laterite is a soil and rock type rich in iron and aluminium and is commonly considered to have formed in hot and wet tropical areas. Nearly all laterites are of rusty-red colouration, because of high iron oxide content.It is found in Western Ghats, Eastern Ghats (Rajamahal Hills, Vindhyas, Satpuras, and Malwa Plateau), southern parts of Maharashtra.

  • Black Soil

Black soil is also known as Regur soil. Lava rocks and climate play an important role in the formation of such soil. It covers about 15% of the total area of India. As this soil is more suitable to cotton it is also known as 'Cotton soil'. It is found in entire Maharashtra, Western Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and certain parts of Karnataka.

  • Mountain Soil or Forest Soil

These soils are very rich in humus, but are deficient in potash, phosphorous and lime.The soils are especially suitable for plantation of tea, coffee, spices and tropical fruits.It is acidic with low humus content in the snow covered areas.These mountain soils are found in hilly regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh.
