Pants and animals are put into different categories on the basis of their ability to obtain their own food. Plants are autotrophs whereas animals are heterotrophs. Also locomotion is one of the criteria

There are different basis of classification of plants and animals:

Mode of nutrition: Plants are autotrophs while animals are heterotrophs.

Cell Composition: Plant cell have cell wall, plastids like organelles while animal cell lack these.

Locomotion: Plants have movement but they can’t show locomotion but animals have movement as well as locomotion.
