Explanation:

A nation is united by its identity. Any nation remains strong till it's citizens themselves as that nation irrespective of winning or losing some war. A nation survives periods of subjugation if it survives in the heart of nation. A nation crumbles when some other identity supersedes national identity in the heart of its citizens(it may be regional, religious, linguistic or ideological), that's what happened in Yugoslavia and USSR where regional identity overshadowed the national identity. Another example is Korea which was divided on ideology or Pakistan which was divided on linguistic identity. Unfortunately for a sizeable chunk of Indian citizens religious identity became supreme (this was fuelled by personal ambitions of some politicians) but fortunately the rot was limited to a particular community in a particular area for rest identity as Indian remains supreme so rest of India remains united and strong. Someday the rouge one will realise their folly and will come back. India is in the hearts of Indian and it's the oldest continuous civilisation of the world.
