He left his kingdom in the Underworld to come out in the light of the Sun only on two occasions, firstly when he went to abduct Persephone and secondly, when he went in search of Paean so that he could be healed of a wound which he suffered from an attack by Hercules, who had struck his shoulder with a sharp - pointed arrow.
